Philips Hue app update brings Siri Shortcuts support on iOS 12

05 October 2018 3

The Philips Hue companion app for iOS devices is now receiving a new update which brings one of the much-awaited features of recent times. With this new version, Philips Hue platform now officially supports Siri Shortcuts available on iOS 12. The announcement regarding the same was made in August and the support is finally here after a couple of months.

It means Philips Hue users will now be able to create custom personal voice phrases for triggering any of the Hue lighting scenes. This will save them from the hassle of remembering preset voice phrases which are something not everyone likes. Additionally, Siri will be able to learn the usage habits of users and will offer smart suggestions about enabling/disabling a particular scene depending on the time of the day.

As per the changelog, Philips Hue team said,

"We are excited to introduce Siri Shortcuts for Hue. Siri now learns when you are using your favorite scenes and suggests them for quick activation right on your lock screen, Siri search or Siri watch-face. You can also record personal phrases to activate your favorite scenes and include them as actions in the Apple Shortcuts app."

It is worth noting that Siri Shortcuts are available only on iOS 12 which means if you have not upgraded your iOS device already, it is the right time do so. Other than this, the Philips Hue support for Siri Shortcuts will work only with the Hue bridge v2 (square shaped). If you are using some other kind of bridge, you will not be able to take advantage of the new update.
