Huawei has announced a new storage device aimed at helping Mate 20 users keep their data safe and secure. It is a drive with a 1TB capacity which will be like an extra storage option on top of the base storage variants available with the smartphones. The highlighting aspect of the drive is that it will start backing up the data automatically while also charging the device at the same time.
This new Huawei storage drive is in a circular shape which makes it look like a wireless charger. It is covered with a waterproof fabric which will prevent it from the accidental water splashes. The whole shell is made out of plastic with a silicone base so that it does not slide on the surface and fall down.
In the announcement, Huawei said that the backup of data will work without an app installation or any kind of special setup. It is as simple as plugging in the storage device and connecting with the Mate 20. Although, there is an option to choose whether the data should back automatically or manually. As for the data backup speed, it is claimed to be fast with the ability to back-up 10 high-resolution photos in a second.
There is a USB Type-C port for charging purposes but there is no support for Huawei's 40W SuperCharge fast charging. But it is compatible with 5V/2A chargers and Huawei's own 9V/2A and 5V/4.5A chargers. Huawei is yet to announce the pricing for the 1TB storage device but is currently up for pre-orders with sales starting October 26th.
