Apple Pencil 2 won’t work on previous generation iPad Pro models

01 November 2018 3

Along with the updated iPad Pro models, Apple announced its second-generation stylus called Pencil 2. This new Pencil 2 comes with gesture support and docks on the right side of the iPad via a magnetic connector. It also features a proximity pairing technology and can be wirelessly paired with the new iPad Pro.

However, the new iPad Pro models, will not be compatible with the old stylus and the new stylus won’t work on the old iPads. Unfortunate it is, however, the new iPads feature a Type C port while the old Apple Pencil connects via the lightning port to pair with the tablet. This change makes it impossible for the old stylus to pair with the new iPad Pro.

Other key difference between both the Apple Pencils is that the new stylus features tap-to-wake feature, a double-tap gesture to change drawing tools. While all these features sound really good, the second generation Apple Pencil 2 is costlier than its predecessor and is priced at $130 while the previous one retailed at $99 per piece.

The Apple Pencil 2 doesn't come bundled with the main device, right? So, if they are selling it as a separate accessory, making it compatible with the earlier iPad Pro models would have given it an extra edge.
