Yi Home Camera 3 with AI-powered detection and notifications unveiled

14 January 2019 2

Yi Technologies is a Xiaomi subsidiary known for releasing consumer electronics products across different categories. One such category is smart home and it has now been updated with a new product. The Yi Home Camera 3 is the latest smart security camera from the company which has been released during the CES 2019 event in Las Vegas.

The biggest highlight of the Yi Home Camera 3 is its ability to record in Full HD (1080p) quality. This high-quality video output is recorded at 20fps which should help you get a better idea of what is being recorded. The other major feature is AI-powered notifications for object detection to ensure that users only get relevant notifications.

Yi says that this new smart security camera does not send alert notifications for "false positives". It describes events such as flying insects, pets passing by the camera, insignificant audio signals, and movement of light rays under the category of fast positives. The camera is said to make use of algorithms that help it decide when to send the notifications. In terms of sound detection, it is capable of detecting a sound within the range of 16 feet (5 meters).

There is a companion smartphone app meant to help users control the Yi Home Camera 3. It can also be used for checking the recorded footage. As part of a promotional offer, each of the buyers will get free access to Yi cloud storage for a period of six months. The free storage will allow storing recorded footage for seven days. It has been priced at $40 with sales said to start towards the end of the month.
