Repair parts for the Apple Watch Series 1 and 1st generation Apple watch are constrained according to reports. Apple has reportedly permitted Apple Authorized Service Providers to offer a 42mm Apple Watch Series 2 as a substitute for the older models starting February through April, according to an internal document issued by the company.
Apple has asked authorized dealers to replace the 42mm first-generation or Series 1 Apple Watch models with a Series 2 in case a customer comes in for a repair for the older models.
The document doesn’t specifically mention Series 2, Series 3, Series 4, or 38mm models nor does it specify if the parts constraint is limited to aluminum, stainless steel, or other finishes. There is no detailed information about which Apple watches will quality for a replacement.
The document was distributed to Apple Authorized Service Providers in the United States as well as other global countries. It is most likely sent to Apple stores as well.
