Samsung Galaxy Note 10 is official now with interesting S Pen features and powerful specifications. The phablet not only debuts a new design but also some specific features that uniquely define its existence. However, it’s not only about everything new as the device may be relinquishing some of the old relationships with other gadgets in the family.
New products come with new hopes and sometimes, they have to leave the old compatibilities behind for good. The Galaxy Note 10 has the same challenge to accept and on its long journey, the phablet doesn’t bother to take the VR headset with itself, just like its predecessor. However, the Galaxy Note 9 did get an option of adapter for those who already have Gear VR headset with themselves.
Samsung hasn’t updated the Gear VR headset since 2017 and it didn’t even utter any word at the recently held Galaxy Unpacked event for the Galaxy Note 10. This is because the new phablet isn’t Gear VR headset compatible. Samsung didn’t disclose on this subject but according to tech analyst Anshel Sag, no version of the Galaxy Note 10 is compatible with Gear VR. He claims to have confirmed the same from Samsung itself. So, the matter does add some weight to the fact that Samsung is looking for even better VR environment, which could be a standalone gadget that doesn’t require a smartphone.
Samsung didn’t explain the reason behind the incompatibility and this case reflects that a big change is on its way. But at the moment, due to obscure knowledge on the same, it’s very much difficult to say if Samsung will provide an adapter or if this is the end of the road for the headset completely.
Samsung Gear VR is among the lowest-cost VR headsets in the market. The VR tech world is swiftly shifting to the standalone headsets that have their displays like the Oculus Go and eventually, we will see the complete transformation. Currently, the standalone headsets are pretty much pricier, so Gear VR is still an important candidate for many, at least for users with older Samsung flagship models.
Let’s wait for Samsung to demystify on the same and give us a clearer picture.
