Apple has officially but quietly announced its newest wireless earphones named AirPods Pro. It made the announcement via a press release instead of holding any kind of launch event. The new AirPods offers many features that were part of the rumor mill but also have a few that are completely opposite of what we heard in reports.
The main highlight of AirPods Pro is the addition of active noise cancellation to offer clear music listening experience even when in a noisy surrounding. It makes use of "two microphones combined with advanced software to continuously adapt to each individual ear and headphone fit". Apple says that the external microphones listen and analyze external sound which is then canceled out by the earphones. The noise cancellation tech is said to adjust the sound signal up to 200 times per second to deliver an immersive sound experience.
For times when you might be interested in listening to what's going on outside, there is a Transparency Mode. Apple says this mode "leaves just the right amount of noise cancellation active" so that you can listen to the music/call clearly while also being able to listen to external sounds. This can be helpful in various situations like when you are walking on a busy road.
AirPods Pro comes with an all-new design which means just like original AirPods, you will be able to tell if someone is using them. Apple is further offering three soft and flexible silicone ear tips (Large, Medium, and Small) so that you can find the right fit for your ears. There is also a software-based audio test that you can use to see if you are using the right ear tip or you need to change it.
Apple has packed new AirPods with Ambient EQ audio tuning technology to ensure that users get a superior sound quality regardless of the ear shape. It is said to auto-adjust low and mid frequencies and tunes them as per the individual ear shape. AirPods Pro are sweat and water-resistant which makes them the perfect companion for your jogging/running and proper gym workout sessions.
AirPods Pro is powered by Apple's custom H1 processor featuring 10 audio cores. It offers Hey Siri hotword detection and wireless charging just like the AirPods (2nd generation). These are said to be capable of offering up to four and a half hours of music listening time on a single charge but they can last for about 24 hours with the help of the Wireless Charging Case. There is a Lightning port for charging purposes but come bundled with a Lightning to USB-C cable.
Apple has priced the new AirPods Pro at $249 which pits them against many other premium wireless earphones like the Sony WF-1000X M3 and Amazon Echo Buds. These are already available for preorders via Apple online and offline stores with shipping starting from October 30th. And yes, these have been released only in the White color option just like the previous two models.
