Acer announces Alexa for select notebooks and all-in-one PCs

22 May 2018 3

Acer has introduced Amazon Alexa voice assistant to a few of its popular Windows 10 notebooks. Earlier this year we did hear about Amazon Alexa would be arriving on Windows 10 but since then nothing more was said about it. Did you know that Acer is the first in the industry to announce Amazon Alexa on notebooks? Having voice-controls will help make things simpler and even more convenient for you. Amazon’s Alexa will be pre-installed on the Acer Spin 3, Acer Spin 5 and even the Acer Nitro 5 which happens to be a gaming notebook. This is a huge step forward for the company as well as a very adventurous one considering they happen to be the first ones to do it.

Alexa will also be pre-installed on a few Aspire, Swift, and Switch models as well as on Aspire all-in-one PCs. Those who already own any of these models will get the Alexa update over-the-air via the Acer Care Center. The Acer Spin 5 and Spin 3 are expected to receive the update on the 23rd and 26th of May respectively. According to Jerry Kao, President of IT Products Business of Acer Inc.:

The Acer Spin 3 and Spin 5 convertible notebooks are the ideal products for the industry debut of Alexa voice functionality on notebooks…We are thrilled to be the first to market with these flexible systems, which feature industry-leading audio and the latest technologies for convenient, time-saving and intuitive interactions.

It seems like Amazon Alexa too seems to be elated by this partnership as Steve Rabuchin, Vice President, Amazon Alexa comments:

We’re delighted to work with Acer to bring Alexa to customers in new ways…We believe customers should be able to interact with Alexa wherever they might need her, including from their PCs, in order to take advantage of the simplicity of voice control.

Acer believes that a user’s experience can be enhanced through the use of voice controls, making it easier for its customers to check the weather forecast, mark an appointment on the calendar and even ask Alexa to manage smart home devices.
