14 May 2020 0

Amazon has updated its Fire HD lineup of tablets for the year 2020. There are three models named Fire HD 8 (2020), Fire HD 8 Plus (2020), and Fire HD 8 Kids Edition (2020). Each of these is packed with specs and services relevant for the kind of user base it is targeting. Let's have a detailed look at them one by one.

Amazon Fire HD 8 (2020)

The Amazon Fire HD 8 (2020) is the base and cheapest model in the lineup. It sports an 8-inch HD display with 1200 x 800 pixels resolution and thick bezels. Under the hood, it has an undisclosed quad-core processor clocked at 2.0GHz as compared to 1.3GHz on the predecessor. It is claimed to deliver a 15% faster performance on the new tablet. There is 2GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage along with microSD card support up to 1TB.

The battery capacity has not been revealed but Amazon is claiming a battery life of up to 12 hours on a single charge. The good thing is that the charging port has been upgraded to USB Type-C. It means users should seem relatively faster charging time than what they got with microUSB port.

It features a 2-megapixel camera on the back as well as on the front. Amazon is offering free unlimited cloud storage for photos clicked using the tablet's cameras. One interesting addition to the tablet is the Game Mode that should offer optimized gaming experience to those who would love to game on the tablet. It will be sold in White, Black, Twilight Blue, and Plum color options.

Amazon has priced the Fire HD 8 (2020) tablet at $89.99 and a limited-time two-pack bundle will cost $159.99. It is already available for preorders with shipping starting June 3rd.

Amazon Fire HD Plus (2020)

The all-new Amazon Fire HD Plus (2020) is essentially the same as the Fire HD 8 (2020) but with a few upgrades to justify the "Plus" tag. The biggest changes include 3GB of RAM and support for Qi wireless charging. The good thing is that the wireless charging dock is bundled with the tablet but that will cost you some extra bucks. It even comes with a 9W wired charger that is said to fully charge the tablet within 4 hours. There is also a free Kindle Unlimited subscription for a period of six months.

The Fire HD Plus (2020) can be purchased for $109.99 but if you also want the wireless charging dock, you will need to shell out $139.99. The pre-orders for the tablet are currently live with shipping starting June 3rd. The color options remain the same as the standard model.

Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Edition (2020)

As the name suggests, the Fire HD 8 Kids Edition (2020) is a tablet specifically meant for kids. It is exactly identical to the Fire HD 8 in terms of specifications and features. The only difference is that it comes bundled with a kids-proof case for the durability of the tablet. These are available in various color options as kids are known to love colors. It even offers a two-years free replacement program as we know that kids can always end up breaking things.

The tablet offers a one-year free subscription Amazon FreeTime Unlimited service which is loaded with kid-friendly content to keep them engaged. And yes, there are a bunch of parental controls as well. The Fire HD 8 Kids Edition (2020) has been priced at $139.99.
