Amazon Rekognition gets celebrity recognition support

09 June 2017 3

Amazon's deep learning image detection and recognition tool Rekognition has now received a new feature which allows it to recognize celebrities. It means you can upload a pic of almost any celebrity from any field and the tool will tell recognize him/her to show relevant information including IMDB page link.

The tool even shows a match confidence level which is a measure of confident the tool is about the result shown being closer to what you were looking for. While this new feature is a way of showing what Amazon Rekognition is capable of doing, it is still a handy tool which can prove to be useful in different situations.

Rekognition is a tool from Amazon on the same lines as Google's Vision API and Microsoft's Cognitive Services. But Google's is the only tool which does not support celebrity recognition yet. We might see it in the future and on the other hand, Microsoft has the most exhaustive tool with the capability to recognize over 200,000 celebrities.

If you would like to try out Rekognition's celebrity recognition feature, you can do so for free but you will need a valid Amazon Web Services account. If you have it, simply visit Rekognition demo page to start exploring.
