UPDATE (October 24, 2017)

The successor to the hugely popular Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is on the way and it might arrive very soon. The Redmi Note 5 has been leaking in a couple of rumors and now, the device has appeared on GeekBench , confirming some of its specifications.

As per the above image, we can see that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is powered by an old and poor Snapdragon 617 chipset (MSM8952) 3GB of RAM, and a really old GPU. The overall setup has resulted in the phone in a very mediocre performance on the benchmarking website. Yes, we agree that the Snapdragon 617 is a decent chip with Cortex-A53 cores, however, it is no match to the Snapdragon 660 SoC featuring eight Kyro cores. Overall, it seems that something is messed up in the benchmark or it’s a prank.

On TENAA, there now seems another variant of the upcoming Redmi Note 5, termed as the MEE7. The MET7, which is described in this original post, is quite similar to this variant. Here’s the list of specifications the MEE7 offers:

  • Display: 5.99-inch, LED display with 18:9 screen ratio, 2160 x 1080p
  • CPU: Octa-core SoC clocked at 2GHz
  • RAM: 3GB
  • Storage: 32GB expandable up to 128GB via microSD card
  • Camera: 12-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

  • Weight: 179.5 grams

Original Post

From the look of the things, Xiaomi is now looking forward to upgrading their Redmi branded mid-range smartphones. Recently Xiaomi announces mid-ranger Redmi 5A and Redmi Note 5A for the Chinese customers. Now all eyes are set for the upcoming Redmi Note 5 which will be successor variant of the company's most successful best mid-ranger Redmi Note 4.

So far the company is silent regarding their plans to announce the Redmi Note, however, what we know so far the rumors suggest the Redmi Note 5 will be announced on November 11 alongside the Redmi 5. As expected the device will be initially released for the Chinese customers. Well, it seems the company is now all set to announce Redmi Note 5 pretty soon as the device receives TENAA certification ahead of official announcement.

As rumored the Redmi Note 5 is featuring a display with 2:1 aspect ratio which is pretty similar to most of the flagships announced this year. Up front, the bezel is pretty slim for the front-facing sensors and selfie camera. The device has on-screen navigation buttons. Surprisingly despite having 2:1 display the bezels on the bottom is pretty thick.

The rear side is adorned with the single-camera sensor. It's quite surprising to see Xiaomi adopted a single camera sensor for the Redmi Note 5. The TENAA certification for sure will disappoint those Redmi Note 5 fans who were looking forward to a dual rear camera setup.

Ahead of TENAA certification, almost all reports indicate the Redmi Note 5 will be featuring dual cameras on the rear side. The fingerprint is placed on the rear side below the camera module. The device bearing model number MET7 appeared at TENAA. As per rumors, the device will be running on the Qualcomm's Snapdragon 630 SoC. The base variant will have 3GB RAM with 32GB storage whereas the top of the line variant will have 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. A 3,790mAh battery cell will be keeping the device lights on. Stay tuned, we will keep you updated as soon as some more info regarding the Redmi Note 5 appears online.
