How to disable peek notifications on Android Nougat

03 November 2017 0

Android has become more efficient and smarter through all the updates it has received all these years. Among all these changes, notification management is one of those aspects which has changed drastically. Google has made some really good changes to offer more controls to users and Peek notifications feature is one such change. It makes it easier for users to know what exactly a notification is about without having to swipe down or leave the app they are using.

Peek notifications come handy for most of the time but at times, they can be annoying and frustrating. Such situations include when you are browsing something full-screen where such notifications can be intrusive and ruin your viewing experience. They are also an issue when you are with people you don't want to have a peek at your notifications. While Google does offer an option to disable peek notification under Notifications settings on Android Marshmallow, it decided to remove the same from there with Nougat release for some reason. But if you are wondering how you can disable peek notifications on Android Nougat, you don't have to worry. The feature is still there on Nougat, it is only the location which has been changed or you can say hidden by Google.

The good thing is that it is extremely easy to disable Peek notifications on Android Nougat if you know where to look. So without further ado, let's get started.

1. Swipe down the notification panel. Tap and hold the Settings icon at the top right corner until it starts spinning and you see a wrench icon next to it.

2. Open Settings and swipe all the way down to find System UI Tuner option. Tap it and then tap on Other option.

3. Tap Power notification controls and turn ON the toggle.

4. Go to Notifications option under Settings main interface. Tap the app name for which you want to disable peek notifications and set the Importance to Level 3. There are six dots which represent Level 0 to Level 5 which means you have to tap on the fourth dot.

This way, you can disable peek notifications on Android Nougat very easily. As we mentioned above, there are different levels available for controlling notifications. You can explore them and set any level as per your need or preference.
