What to expect from OnePlus 5T on November 16?

13 November 2017 5

The Chinese giant OnePlus first flagship OnePlus 5 was pretty successful despite having traditional thick bezels design. The device remained on success track despite the fact most of its competitors were featuring ultra-thin bezels design. It is now officially confirmed that OnePlus is getting ready to announce another flagship killer smartphone for this year and the device will be released as OnePlus 5T.

Like last year the T variant from OnePlus brings major improvements to the current gen variant. For sure the OnePlus fans are pretty exciting regarding the upcoming OnePlus 5T. After a couple of months of release, the company released a striking gold variant with the ravishing finish. Later on, the company releases a special edition variant of OnePlus 5. This variant was the company's collaboration with Jean-Charles de Castelbajac a well-known French designer. From the look of the things, the company is now getting ready to announce another exciting product which is slightly different from what we have seen so far from the company.

As expected the upcoming OnePlus 5T from the OnePlus is in rumors and leaks from last few months. From last few days, the rumors mill is continuously producing new details regarding the device which created hype amongst the tech enthusiast and OnePlus fans. Whenever a new smartphone announcement is inching closer, everyone is keen to know what the device is bringing on board. Like always, today we will round up all the info we know so far regarding the OnePlus 5T which surely give our readers a pretty good idea about the upcoming OnePlus 5T. Without any further ado, let's have a look at what to expect from OnePlus 5T.

Release date

A few weeks ago the OnePlus 5 went out of stock in most of the regions which indicate whether the company didn't have enough stock to fulfill demand or the company is clearing stock for the upcoming device. Later, the company confirmed a new device announcement is inching closer.

The Company's CEO Pete Lau officially confirmed they will be announcing OnePlus 5T in NewYork on November 16th. Usually, the tech event invitations are sent out to press and tech journals but the company made this event open to the public as well. Anyone can get the invitation to the event but you have to spend $40 to be the one to have a hands-on impression of the OnePlus 5T. For the UK customers, the device will be exclusively available via O2 and its pre-orders will start soon after the announcement with a release from November 21st.

Last year OnePlus 3T was the company's first smartphone with T branding. The OnePlus 3T shares similar design like OnePlus 3 but brings a number of improvements under the hood, this year once again we are expecting the OnePlus 5T will share same design language the company introduced with OnePlus 5. However, there will be a significant change on the front-facing side. The unibody metal design with the ultra-thin profile will remain similar. The OnePlus 5 design depicts premiumness and we can expect the OnePlus 5T will continue to share it.

The OnePlus 5 design was pretty much similar to the Oppo's camera-centric smartphone R11. Now we heard rumors the company's upcoming OnePlus 5T will also look pretty much similar to the Oppo's recently announced F5. The OnePlus 5T took design queues from Oppo F5 which was announced in October this year. Recently the Android Authority releases an exclusive promo image of upcoming OnePlus 5T. It also showcases pretty well what you expect from OnePlus 5T in terms of design.

The basic unibody metal design will remain similar even the dual-rear cameras placement. However, the front-facing side will have the bezel-less design with a 2:1 aspect ratio display. The fingerprint scanner will be moved to the rear side below the dual rear cameras in the center.

One of the most reliable tipsters online Evan Blass also releases a top half of the OnePlus 5T which also confirms the device has 2:1 aspect ratio with the similar design like OnePlus 5. Once again the company is now willing to bring water and dust resistant smartphone, we can claim that it is one of the major difference between the premium Android flagships and flagship killer smartphones from OnePlus.

It's good to see the OnePlus 5T will retain the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack like its predecessors, it's officially confirmed as well. The company for sure with emphasis on this aspect at the launch event too because a number of manufacturers already ditched the headphone jack but the company still kept it which will be appreciated by most of the customers.

In last few weeks we have seen a number of official teaser images of OnePlus 5T from the manufacturers which reveals much of the design details. The company also showcased that dimensions of OnePlus 5T and OnePlu 5 are similar.

The 2:1 aspect ratio is certainly one of the biggest selling features of OnePlus 5T. Almost all leaks and rumors showcased an elongated display with ultra-thin bezels on edges. The 2:1 display of OnePlus 5T is expected to be similar to Oppo F5 as initially the F5 leaked images were rumored as OnePlus 5T images.

Unfortunately the company is still not ready to bring Quad HD display panel but instead, they will stick to Full HD+ display panel with 1080 x 2160 pixels screen resolution. The device will have a 6.0-inches display in the same body which features 5.5-inches display with traditional 16:9 aspect ratio. In H2 2017, we have seen almost all flagships with 2:1 aspect ratio. Huawei recently announced premium flagship Mate 10 Pro with 2:1 display.

As far as display tech is a concern the company Co-Founder and CEO Pete Lau gives a clear indication that OnePlus will continuo using AMOLED displays from Samsung. OnePlus is using OLED display from Samsung for quite some time and from the look of things it seems like OnePlus will stick to Samsung's AMOLED for OnePlus 5T 2:1 display as well.

Being a flagship killer smartphone, the OnePlus 5T should have the latest hardware under the hood. The last year OnePlus 3T brings a number of improvements under the hood but from the look of things that's not the case this year. The Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 which powers almost all flagships this year is still on top of its game whereas its successor chipset is expected to debut in Q1 2018. The first smartphone with Snapdragon 845 is expected in March/ April next year.

So once again you will be getting Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 under the hood as the chipset. The base variant will have 6GB RAM whereas the top of the line variant will have 8GB RAM on board. As per AnTuTu benchmark listing the OnePlus 5T top of the line variant will have Snapdragon 835 with 8GB RAM and 128GB native storage. It won't support memory expansion via MicroSD card.

This setup is powerful enough to handle all hifi games and multi-tasking. You won't disappoint with the performance of this setup in all scenarios and it is future proof as well in terms of performance and sheer power under the hood.

This year following the latest trend the OnePlus adopted dual rear cameras for the OnePlus 5. We can expect the upcoming OnePlus 5T will also have dual cameras set up on the rear side. The dual rear cameras on OnePlus 5T will be better than OnePlus 5 in terms of bigger aperture and other aspects. The device will bring portrait and bokeh effect on board.

The exact megapixels of these camera sensors are still in dark but a teaser image shared by Pete Lau clearly showcase the device low-light performance is improved significantly. The teaser caption was "Impressive photo. Must be a great camera ;-)" So you can expect a great camera setup on the OnePlus 5T to capture impressive photos.

Carl Pei also highlighted the OnePlus 5T camera capabilities by tweeting the Portrait Mode image captured using OnePlus 5T. The current gen OnePlus 5 comes with a 16MP primary sensor with the 20MP telephoto lens. The latest smartphones with better camera capabilities come with low megapixel cameras with better pixels and large aperture so that it can capture amazingly even in low-light conditions.

Mostly flagships have the primary camera of 12MP with the better aperture to grab amazing photos. The front-facing camera on the OnePlus 5 was 16MP, we can expect it might not change.

In battery section, only one thing is confirmed that OnePlus 5T will also support Dash Charging and it won't support Wireless charging. The OnePlus thinks the wireless charging tech is still immature in terms of fast charging speed they will adopt it once they think it is enough mature to charge rapidly like their Dash Charge which charges juice for the whole day in just a few minutes.

The battery size is still not confirmed, OnePlus adopted a 3,300mAh battery cell for OnePlus 5. We can expect the OnePlus 5T will have the battery of at least this size, however larger battery is always welcomed.

As far as price is a concern initially we heard rumors that OnePlus 5T will cost same as OnePlus 5 but the company CEO responded pretty quickly that the upcoming OnePlus 5T will be slightly expensive as opposed to OnePlus 5. He further stated the components prices increased as well as they are improving the components quality with each new iteration that's why successor is slightly expensive than the predecessor. The OnePlus 5T pricing won't cross $600 it is also confirmed by the Pete Lau.

Though accurate pricing is still in dark considering the company's history, the usual increase up to $40 for their next iteration. If this guess is accurate, you can expect OnePlus 5T base variant with 64GB for $519 whereas the 128GB variant to cost $579. However as nothing is set in stone, we will recommend taking this info with a grain of salt.

At the end, we would like to hear our readers thoughts regarding the latest OnePlus 5T rumors roundup in the comments section below.

The OnePlus 5T is available at Amazon for $ 409. The price/quality is good and this is the best device in this price range.
