Razer CEO explains why the Razer smartphone lacks a 3.5mm jack

28 November 2017 3

The Razer smartphone is a gaming masterpiece, incorporating some of the best specifications of 2017 with a display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate and a massive battery to tend to your long gaming sessions. The device does almost anything you need it to do and is quite durable as well. However, the one missing feature is the headphone jack. The device lack a 3.5mm headphone jack. If this has been a question which was plaguing you for a while now, you’re in luck as the CEO of Razer, Mr Min-Liang Tan has taken to Facebook to tell you why it has not been included.

Mr Tan’s post gives all the answers. According to him, the decision was made in order to get better performance. Well, how better performance? Removing the headphone jack actually allowed for more space. This allowed the company to include a massive battery, gaining 500mAh more than what would normally be included if the device had a 3.5mm jack. In addition to this, since there a more room in the phone, thermals would be improved, leading to a better overall experience.

The company in no way has sacrificed on the sound quality as the CEO claims that it has a 24-bit DAC built into it. This actually results in a better audio experience. The DAC adapter is also included with every unit of the Razer phone. The company has also released special headphones for it. This doesn’t seem like too such a bad idea after all. A larger battery and better performance, what more could you ask for?
