The South Korean giant Samsung wraps off the cover from the much awaited and heavily rumored W2018 smartphone. The device is announced in a dedicated event held in Xiamen China. For those who are unaware, the device is flagship flip smartphone which brings premium design language with dual displays. The company's W-lineup smartphones are meant for raising charity, the latest W2018 is the 10th-anniversary edition of W-lineup smartphones.
In terms of specs, the W2018 is featuring a glass and metal sandwich design. Its dimensions are 132.2 x 63.2mm x 15.9. The width is measured when the device is folded. It weighs 247g. The W2018 will be available in Platinum and Elegant Gold. The display glass is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass. The hinge of W2018 is made up of zinc alloy. The front-facing AMOLED display is 4.2-inches with Full HD screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels whereas the inner display is also 4.2-inches. Its screen resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels. The Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 SoC is powering the device with 6GB RAM.
There are two variants on the basis of built-in storage. The base variant has is dubbed as Extreme Edition with 64GB memory whereas the top of the line variant is known as Collector Edition with 256GB memory. The front-facing selfie camera is 5MP module whereas the primary rear snapper is the 12MP module with a large aperture of f/1.5. It is the first smartphone in the market with such large aperture. The rear snapper has optical image stabilization.
Samsung suggests the W2018 rear snapper aperture in daylight will be automatically switched to f/2.4 whereas in low-light conditions it will be f/1.5 aperture to snap amazing in both low-light and daylight conditions. Once again the fingerprint scanner is placed right next to rear snapper which is the pretty awkward position. It also has the physical button to access Bixby AI Assistant. A 2,300mAH battery cell is on board to keep its lights on. It is pre-installed with Android Nougat 7.1.1 with Samsung's TouchWiz UI layer over it. For connectivity, it has USB Type-C port.
For Chinese customers, the device is bringing exclusive concierge services. In China, it will be available via China Telecom.
