The Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are in leaks and rumors from past few weeks. It is confirmed that Xiaomi is going to announce these two aforementioned smartphones on Dec 7th in China. The key highlight of this device is it's 2:1 display like most of the top-tier devices announced in 2017.
Today we already shared the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus official images shared by Xiaomi Product management director to create hype ahead of launch. Now we have a promotional video of Redmi 5 series which showcase the device design. The Promo video comprised of three different videos of Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus. In all the videos one thing is prominent and that is the bezel-less design. Unfortunately, the video didn't highlight the specs difference of both the devices. Recently we have an info that Redmi 5 series will be pre-installed with MIUI 9 straight out of the box. The new MIUI 9 is the latest OS software from Xiaomi which brings a number of upgrades over the MIUI 8. The good thing is Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus appeared at TENAA certification which gives us a pretty good idea of what to expect from the devices in terms of specs.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is expected to have a 5.7-inches 2:1 display with HD+ screen resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels. The Qualcomm's Snapdragon 450 SoC is powering the device with 3GB RAM. The rear primary snapper is 12MP. The 3GB RAM variant built-in storage will be 16GB. As far as pricing is a concern the Redmi 5 is expected to cost 799 Yuan in China which is $136 at the current currency exchange rate.
As far as Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus specs are a concern, it is expected with a 5.9-inches display with Full HD+ screen resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels. The Qualcomm's Snapdragon 625/630 SoC is powering the device. The base variant will have 3GB RAM with 32GB storage whereas the top tier variant has 4GB RAM with 64GB memory. It is expected to have dual rear cameras 12MP+5MP. A 4,000mAh battery cell will be powering it. The Redmi 5 Plus base variant is rumored to cost 999 Yuan in China ($150) whereas the 4GB RAM is expected at 1,299 Yuan.
