05 January 2018 3

HMD Global has officially launched the Nokia 6 (2018) in China which marks the start of the year for the company which had a fruitful 2017. It is a direct successor to last year's Nokia 6 and brings a number of significant improvements. The design and specifications of the smartphone are almost same as what we already saw in previous leaks and rumors.

The first thing that you will notice about the Nokia 6 (2018) is that it has a clean front panel with no physical capacitive menu buttons and fingerprint scanner. HMD Global has opted for on-screen navigation buttons this time around and has also moved the fingerprint scanner to the back panel. In terms of build, it features a full metal unibody design made up of 6000 series aluminum which should give a premium feel while holding the device.

The Nokia 6 (2018) sports a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD display with Corning Gorilla Glass protection and 2.5D curved glass. Under the hood, it has the octa-core 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor which is a significant upgrade from last year's Snapdragon 430. There are two variants of the smartphone, one with 4GB RAM/32GB storage and another with 4GB RAM/64GB storage. Both variants come with microSD cards support up to 128GB.

In the camera department, you will find a 16-megapixel rear shooter with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus, and dual-LED flash. There is an 8-megapixel shooter on the front with f/2.0 aperture and 84-degree wide-angle lens. It should help you in clicking better group selfies. Another interesting addition is that the Nokia 6 (2018) comes with dual view mode which will allow you to capture feeds from both front and rear camera at the same time. The whole package is powered by a 3000mAh battery with fast charging (up to 50% in 30 minutes). It will be running stock Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box but HMD Global has promised Android 8.0 Oreo upgrade with no specific timeline.

If interested, you can pre-order Nokia 6 (2018) from Suning in China with sales starting January 10th. The 4GB/32GB model has been priced at 1499 Yuan (about $230) and 4GB/64GB at 1699 Yuan (about $262). There are no words on the global availability yet but we can expect to get some information soon enough.
