Flipkart has become an exclusive retailer of Alcatel-branded Android smartphones in India. The company’s announced the new partnership at the ongoing CES 2018 event.
The partnership agreement was signed with Alcatel’s parent company TCL Communication, at the Consumer Electronics Show 2018. Alcatel stated that the partnership with Flipkart will strengthen its brand’s position. The partnership will only include Alcatel’s large screen phones and will span the entirety of 2018. The collaboration may be extended in 2019 if it is profitable.
Flipkart revealed TCL devices have been performing well and accounted for approximately 15% of all large-screen tablet sales on its website in 2017. The company stated that Alcatel A310 was the most popular tablet on Flipkart in the final quarter of 2017. Both the companies have yet to reveal the offerings that will be launched under the partnership this year.
At CES 2018, TCL unveiled the Alcatel 1X, Alcatel 3V, and the Alcatel 5 tablets. Flipkart is the largest Internet business in India with over 400 million of annual sales. The partnership will provide a push to the Alcatel brand in India. The deal will also give a Flipkart an edge over rival Amazon India.
TCL executive Christian Gatti stated that the company could also team up with to sell their Alcatel-branded devices as well.
