HTC U12 may be the company’s next flagship smartphone to launch this year. Going by the rumors and speculations we have received so far, the U12 may feature an 18:9 display, something which is now a staple of the high-end devices.
Now, a new device, which according to @evleaks is HTC U12 spotted at the 5G industry event in Korea. Going by a tweet of a senior member of XDA developers that later cited by Evan Blass, HTC participated in the inaugural meeting of Taiwan 5G Industry Alliance with a bundle of new devices and phones. One of the phones from HTC, which is likely to be U12 aka 'Imagine' was apparently shown at the test of 5G connectivity for this event in Taiwan.
Apparently this lightly obfuscated handset on display at a 5G industry event is none other than HTC Imagine, aka "U12," aka the company's next flagship. https://t.co/f89KjGjEyX— Evan Blass (@evleaks) February 5, 2018
The phone, was, however, covered so as to keep the identity under wraps. But, a few aesthetics of the same were enough to give us a guess that it could be none other than the rumored HTC U12. There were on-screen navigation keys that reflect an 18:9 display. The corners aren’t rounded like most 18:9 screens, such appearance looks quite similar to the U11+.
Not much is known about the HTC U12 but the rumors have yelled a 6-inch 1440p display, Snapdragon 845 processor, and a whopping 6GB RAM. Looking at the phone shown at the 5G event, we can only admire the download speeds for now.
Last month, a render shown in the Amazon Japan listing had four cameras, two on the front and two on the rear side. The render also showed an ultra-thin profile.
The HTC U11 was released in May 2017, so the same is expected from the U12.
In related news, HTC reportedly has an entry-level smartphone with 18:9 display to announce as well this year. Almost everything is known about the device, thanks to the same prolific tipster.
