Samsung partners with Disney for its AR Emoji, one ups Apple

26 February 2018 5

When Samsung unveiled the latest flagship Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9 Plus last night, it introduced a new feature alongside the phones – AR Emoji. The feature helps the user create a personal emoji that mirrors every movement made by him/her. However, at the Unpacked 2018 press event, it almost just mentioned that if the user doesn’t want to have a virtual character, they can choose from some of the pre-made models that include Disney’s iconic characters like the Mickey Mouse.

It now seems that Samsung has joined hands with Disney for its characters in the AR Emoji feature. This might be upsetting news for Apple as it has been in partnership with Disney for so long till now. The late Steve Jobs’ estate happens to be one of the biggest stockholders in Disney and the current president of Disney, Bob Iger, sits on Apple’s board.

Although only Mickey and Minnie Mouse characters are available in AR Emoji, the press event shows an image of the two characters standing alongside the Incredibles family. Disney might use the hype of the upcoming Incredibles 2 movie and release the characters for the two new flagships then.

What are your thoughts on the new partnership? Will this affect the bond between Apple and Disney? Let us know in the comments below.
