Instagram, an image-focused social media platform may soon allow you to make video and voice calling. Well, if we go by the spotted files within the latest Instagram and Instagram Direct Android apps, we can fairly think of these features getting activated anytime soon, though the makers have denied commenting on the same, which is a bit obvious.
There are a variety of image files in the Application Package (APK), which have titles such as “call.png”, “video_call.png”, and “action_call.png”. These image files are shared with Techcrunch by an avid reader Ishan Agarwal.
The presence of these files simply indicates that the functionality maybe getting prepared to get released soon.
Facebook who owns Instagram and WhatsApp has been making several changes to them. The WhatsApp received Instagram Stories-like feature that allows the users to add media to their status. And, now Instagram seems to be receiving a functionality which is tied with WhatsApp or years now.
The move to employ voice and video calling on Instagram is likely to overtake its major rival, Snapchat, which has had video calling for over three years.
It seems like Instagram would activate the audio and video calling within its Direct message service so that the users can contact their friends directly through the chat. A similar report also surfaced in January that showed an image of a video call button spotted by the WAbetainfo blog. At that time also, the company denied commenting on the same.
A later report came from Guiherme Rambo, iOS developer revealed that the same evidence, that’s, Instagram’s video calling feature can also be found in iOS, indicating the feature will not only be coming to Android.
