Fitbit started as a startup interested in making wearables (read fitness trackers) to help users keep a tab on their health and fitness. But with time, it realized that there is some market for smartwatches too and unveiled its first smartwatch named Ionic last year. It was an expensive offering and out of budget for most people which seems to be the reason behind the unveiling of its newest smartwatch called Versa.
The Fitbit Versa is an affordable offering touted as "Smartwatch for All" with an entry-level pricing of $199. It has a completely different build and design from the Ionic which makes sense considering that the cost has been cut down here. The watch comes packed with features which are common among modern-age smartwatches. These include the ability to track various activities and see vital stats/information (heart rate, steps count, calories burnt, etc.) at a glance without having to go into specific sections. Based on one's activity pattern, it will also offer suggestions to help them achieve their goals.
The watch further offers on-screen workouts, automatic activity tracking, sleep tracking, guided breathing sessions, and cardio fitness level. In future, it will be receiving an update to get support for female health tracking. This will allow female users of the watch to log their periods, track their cycle, and gauge ovulation. Fitbit is further claiming a battery life of up to 4 days on a single charge which is impressive if it comes anywhere close to it in near life.
For those who love to swim, the Versa is water-resistant up to 50M and can be used for tracking laps, swim workout durations and calories burned. It further supports Pandora and allows downloading over 300 songs for offline listening from the service if you are a member of Pandora Plus/Premium. The watch is capable of showing app notifications, send quick replies, make payments using NFC, sync with Bluetooth devices, and install apps from the Fitbit app store.
The Fitbit Versa is currently up for preorders for $199.95 but if you want the smartwatch with Fitbit Pay functionality, you will have to go for the Fitbit Versa Special Edition priced at $229.95. It will become available across all major offline stores starting April 2018.
