Spotify has now become the latest internet giant to release a lite version of its app. It has been named Spotify Lite which is not surprising considering how other players like Facebook, Uber, and Instagram have named their lite apps similarly as well. This new app is aimed at users with low-end devices or slow/limited internet connections as it comes with different data saving features.
While Spotify Lite is definitely a welcome step, it misses out on a lot of amazing functionalities of the main app and offers bare minimum features. The home screen of the app has only three options called Home, Search, and Playlists. There are no personalized playlists on the home screen and instead, users are seeing playlists with Drake as the cover photo on all of them.
The app does not offer offline song listening ability which means the only way you can listen to the music is by streaming it online. There is no way you can play your desired song in a particular playlist even if you are a premium member. It means you will have to rely on Spotify's music shuffle while playing any of the playlists. The Spotify Connect functionality is also missing from the lite version which allows you to connect with an external audio output wirelessly.
But as for what is there, Spotify Lite lets you set data consumption limit which can be chosen from 250MB, 500MB, 750MB, 1GB, 2GB, and 3GB. It also lets you keep an eye on your Android device's storage consumption so that you can clear data if it starts to run slow. It weighs only 15MB in size and has been optimized to work on slow or unstable network conditions.
