Snap Inc. has become the latest company to venture into the market of original shows with the release of Snap Originals. It is a new content type within the Snapchat app comprising of various original shows created by different well-known content creators. This is undoubtedly Snap's latest attempt at trying to earn some more money but most importantly to make sure that users stay on the app and spend as much time as possible.
There are currently a dozen shows available on the Snap Originals platform. Some of these include Class of Lies from one of the creators of Riverdale, Co-Ed (Duplass Brothers' new comedy show), and Endless Summer from the creators of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. It will be releasing one episode per day for these shows with the goal of keeping users hooked and using Snapchat every day.
Since it is from Snapchat, users will be able to share custom Filters and Lenses related to a particular show with their friends on the app. There is also augmented reality feature called Snap Portals where they will be able to enter a particular scene and have an immersive experience of being actually being there.
Snap Originals can be accessed by either visiting the Discover section or by simply searching for a show's name in the app. Although, Snap is said to be working on adding a dedicated section for the shows so that users can browse all of them from a single place. It is also reported to spend a good amount of money on marketing the new platform via ads on different platforms like YouTube and Reddit to make sure people know that even Snapchat has original shows.
