OnePlus has announced a new partnership with British supercar maker McLaren under which it will be launching a special edition OnePlus 6T. This new edition of the latest OnePlus flagship will be made official on December 11th at the McLaren Technology Centre, UK. On the next day, December 12th, it will be released for the Indian market.
It is currently a mystery that what exactly OnePlus 6T McLaren edition will bring to the table but the launch event for the same has been teased as "Salute to Speed". This is not surprising considering both OnePlus and McLaren are known for emphasizing on the speed aspect of their respective products. This suggests that the special edition will feature all the high-end specifications and features and might even have only the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage option. Since Orange is the theme color for McLaren, the smartphone is likely to sport the same color as well.
Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus, said,
“McLaren and OnePlus were born in a similar way - with a big dream to create something special. Starting from nothing, we challenged ourselves to never settle. Today we unveil a true testament to innovation, a salute to speed.”
Zack Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, said,
“The OnePlus brand is synonymous with speed and power, two values that McLaren likewise strives to deliver with every car we build. Bringing together the inventive, pioneering spirit shared by both OnePlus and McLaren is a firm statement of intent to leverage our collective powers and break new ground for innovative ideas and technology.”
This is not the first time we are seeing a smartphone maker partnering with a car maker. In the recent past, we have seen the likes of Huawei and Oppo release special edition phones by teaming up with the likes of Porsche Design and Lamborghini. As for OnePlus itself, it has previously launched limited edition smartphones in partnership with Disney's Star Wars and Marvel's Avengers franchise.
