Android 12 Oct
One of the major reasons behind the success of Google Android ecosystem is its diversity and the will to appreciate competition and for that purpose, Google PlayStore became a huge hit when millions of apps competition against each other. Though if you get to think of any online store other than Google PlayStore for Android games you won’t be able to recall of any major one that has both the quality of apps and as well as security considered.
Though it seems that it's about to change as the founder of the hugely popular and successful game Fornite has to initiate their own app store named Epic Games, which aims to confront Google PlayStore head on. The store will begin with featuring “hand-curated set of games on PC and Mac” and then later on to “open up more broadly to other games and to Android and other open platforms throughout 2019.”
Interestingly, the business model here of Epic Games seems to be quite attractive both for the company and as well as more for the developers. There is a solid reason why Google would and should worry about the arrival of Epic Game Store considering how the newcomer in the industry is offering a luring 78 percent of the entire revenue generated by an app on Android ecosystem while keeping the rest of 12 percent. Comparing this to Google and Apple which keep 30 percent of the profit that a game makes on their app stores.
This would surely lure in a lot of developers to have their games on Epic Game store ditching Google PlayStore, though we’d have to wait and see Google’s move in this regard when Epic Game store launches in 2019. Would Google drop their profit share as well on Google PlayStore? Only time would open up these things. though if you’re a developer, this arrival of Epic Game store is surely a great news for you.
