WeChat is one of the most widely used instant messenger apps in China. It used to enjoy a dominant position a few years ago but with the rise of rival apps like TikTok, it has started to look for ways to attract users. In the same direction, WeChat has now mimicked Snapchat Stories feature which has already been copied by a number of other messaging apps like Instagram, WhatsApp, and even Facebook.
WeChat has released the feature under the name "Time Capsule" and as part of a complete revamp of the application. It has kept the core concept same as Snapchat but has made a few tweaks to the way it is being used. It allows users to record videos up to 15 seconds long in length which gets deleted automatically after a period of 24 hours. This is the only thing which remains the same in WeChat's mimicking.
When it comes to seeing Time Capsule videos of others, WeChat does not align them at the top of the feed in a horizontal row. It will only show a Blue ring around the profile picture of a user to alert others that the user has created such a video. It will be up to other users whether they want to see the video or not. In other words, WeChat is not offering a straightforward way of finding such videos.
WeChat's new feature is already available for users via the latest update available on the App Store and Google Play Store. One can download the same for free.
