Realme crosses 4 million smartphone shipments in eight months

03 January 2019 3

Realme was announced as an Oppo sub-brand about eight months ago with the goal of boosting online sales and taking on Xiaomi's Redmi series. It has proved to be quite successful so far and as per the latest official announcement, Realme has already shipped over 4 million smartphones. It is undoubtedly an impressive feat, especially considering that it became a separate entity a few months ago.

The announcement was made via the official Realme Twitter account. It referred to the achievement as a great start to the year 2019 and thanked all the fans for the support. The accompanying image also has "Ready to Celebrate?" text which suggests that there could be something in the pipeline for fans. It is not confirmed but recent reports indicate that it could be the new affordable phone called Realme A1.

These impressive numbers from Realme are not at all surprising. Just a couple of months ago, Realme emerged as the third best-selling brand during the Diwali festival season. It captured a 9% market share during the season which was topped by well-established Xiaomi and Samsung. This shows that Realme is on to a great start and is undoubtedly a brand to watch out for this year.

In terms of product catalog, Realme started off with the release of Realme 1. It was succeeded by the Realme 2 and Realme 2 Pro. There is also a budget phone named Realme C1 and a selfie-centric device Realme U1.
