Google working on making YouTube Music default music app on Android

11 January 2019 4

Google has released a new YouTube Music app update which upgrades the version number to 2.65. The changes included in the update are not major ones but as per the APK teardown, the team is definitely working on bringing big changes. The teardown was done by folks at 9to5Google and discovered that Google is working towards making YouTube Music default music app on Android devices.

As per the references found in the code, YouTube Music will soon support playing locally stored songs. It means the app will expand beyond just being music streaming app. It is expected to allow users to manage their local songs with actions like deleting tracks directly from the app. This way, users will be able to access online as well as locally stored songs from a single place without having to rely on two separate apps.

Other than this, there are signs suggesting that Google is likely to make YouTube Music a system app. If this comes true, then Android smartphone users will find the app coming pre-installed on their new devices. All of these signs point only one way which is Google wants to make YouTube Music one-stop-solution for all music needs of Android users. It is pretty much like how Apple has Apple Music for iOS users.

It should be noted that all of these upcoming features are speculations on the basis of YouTube Music APK teardown. There is no surety if and when Google will actually implement these changes. Either way, we will keep you updated on all the future developments and possibilities.
