OnePlus started sending out media invites for its MWC 2019 presence last week. It is an invite-only event with speculations growing over what could be showcased there. The official answer to these speculations has finally arrived as OnePlus has now confirmed that it will be making announcements and showing off devices related to 5G connectivity.
The biggest highlight of the event will be the OnePlus 5G prototype. All the attendees of the event will be allowed to have a hands-on experience with the prototype device. It will allow them to see the difference 5G connectivity can bring to the table. It will also be showing off gaming experience on a 5G network which should deliver faster response time and almost negligible latency for online gaming.
In the official statement, OnePlus said,
"OnePlus, at Qualcomm’s booth (Hall 3 Stand 3E10), invites all to connect and communicate with our community over a 5G network. Attendees will also be able to experience the capabilities of 5G gaming on a OnePlus 5G prototype. Keep an eye out for the limited-edition Qualcomm x OnePlus pin badge, only available at the OnePlus stand."
OnePlus has been touting and teasing its 5G phone since the second half of 2018. It has been boasting about being one of the first to release a 5G smartphone this year. If we go by rumors, the OnePlus 5G phone is set to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and Qualcomm X50 modem. It is reported to cost $200-$300 more than the standard OnePlus device pricing. This is the reason it will be released in limited quantities and only in select markets. In other words, it will be a niche offering and not a mainstream product.
