Oppo reveals ColorOS 6 to debut with Reno series; other devices to follow

18 March 2019 2

It has been about four months since Oppo officially released ColorOS 6 as its latest software skin iteration. It shared a glimpse of changes and new features that would be coming but stayed mum on the availability aspect. The silence has finally been broken as Oppo has revealed that ColorOS 6 will make its debut with the upcoming Reno series smartphone.

Reno is the latest lineup of Oppo smartphones set to get official on April 10th in China. It will be offering products with various new features and, as confirmed now, new software user experience. ColorOS 6 is most likely to be based on Android 9 Pie which is the latest Android version.

The team will further upgrade existing devices in different batches:

ColorOS 6 will also be released for Realme phones but there is no specific timeline for that yet. Although, we already know that it will be coming with an app drawer on both Oppo and Realme devices. It has been one of the commonly requested features as not many like a launcher with no app drawer.

To give you an overview of changes, ColorOS 6 focuses on a minimalist design approach with White background and a hint of color depending on the currently opened app. There is a new custom font called Oppo Sans which will be the default font on devices receiving the update. There will be support for gestures, new icons, wallpapers, themes, GameBoost 2.0, and Remote Guard among other features.
