Airtel launches Wynk Tube audio, video music streaming app like YouTube Music

30 April 2019 5

Bharti Airtel has launched a new music streaming app called Wynk Tube. It features music content in both audio and video formats similar to YouTube Music. The only major difference is that the app currently does not offer English language music. It has plans of expanding the support English and as many local languages as possible in the future.

Wynk Tube is a lightweight app with a download size of only about 6 MB. Airtel is primarily targeting users from non-metro cities including Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns and villages across India. The new app is an extension of the already popular Wynk Music app which is limited to audio songs.

On launching Wynk Tube for the first time, the app asks users to choose an app language (English or Hindi). The next step is to select the music language (Hindi, Punjabi, and Bhojpuri) and a few music artists to follow. Once selected, the app takes the user to the home page featuring sections like Latest Music Videos, Recently Played, Recommended Artists, and Recommended Playlists. The app also has two more tabs called Trending and My Music (locally stored or download music).

While playing a song, one can choose whether to play video as well or only the audio. This should be familiar to you if you have used YouTube Music. One good thing about Wynk Tube is that it supports Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode. It means users can keep watching a video while they do something else on the phone as well.

Airtel has priced Wynk Tube at Rs. 99 per month along with a 30-days free trial. The app will be completely free to use for those who are an Airtel subscriber just like Wynk Music app. It is currently available only on Android but should get released on iOS sometime soon.

It's nice to see the app supporting the PiP mode right from the start. Such flexibility helps in making it more user-friendly and makes a good impression upfront.
