Garmin has announced menstrual tracking feature for its wearable devices. The feature will be accessible via the Garmin Connect app where women will be able to enter vital details and get relevant predictions as well as insights. In the official press release, it is mentioned that an all-women team worked on the feature, right from the development to marketing.
The menstrual tracking feature on Garmin supports keeping a log of the cycle, daily physical and emotional symptoms, and writing personal notes for each day of the period. Garmin says this will help "women make the connection between their current cycle phase, physical and emotional symptoms, and overall wellbeing." The whole feature is customizable so that women can make it work as per their needs like regular/irregular cycles or transitioning into menopause.
As more and more data will be logged in, the feature will start offering more relevant predictions and insights. It can send alerts regarding next period date and fertility windows. It can help women become more aware of fluctuations like sleep, mood, appetite, and athletic performance. The app will also send alerts to notify users about adding the log for the day so that they don't forget.
Since menstrual tracking feature is available with Garmin Connect, it can be used via the smartphone app as well desktop. A user will need to sign-in using her Garmin account and visit the Health Stats section. From here, select the Menstrual Cycle option which will bring initial setup instructions during the first usage. Once the setup is complete, users can start logging their data.
Those users who have Connect IQ app compatible wearable, they can add logs and get all the alerts and insights directly on their wrist. These devices include Forerunner 645 Music, Vivoactive 3, Vivoactive 3 Music, and Fenix 5 Plus series.
