Honor View 20 update brings Ark compiler support, May 2019 security patch

10 May 2019 4

The Honor View 20 is receiving a new software update that brings Ark compiler to the flagship. It is an update based on Magic UI 2.1 which is the custom software skin for Honor smartphones. It further brings May 2019 Android security patch level which makes it up to date in terms of monthly security patches released by Google.

Ark compiler is Huawei's custom-made Android compiler to boost the under the hood performance. It is claimed to offer a 24% boost in system performance, a 44% boost in response, and a 60% boost in third-party apps operations. In other words, the compiler should help everything feel faster and smoother than the traditionally used ART (Android Run Time) compiler.

This new compiler was unveiled last month and is an open source offering. It means it can be used by any OEM and developer for their respective devices. Huawei is hopeful that more and more device makers will use Ark compiler to make their devices perform faster and more smoothly.

The update bears version number 9.1.0.211 (COOE203R1P16). It has a size of about 362MB which happens to be on the lower side. It is an over the air update with gradual rollout currently underway. It is available only in China for the moment but should be released for the global audience in the near future as well. It is worth noting that the Honor View 20 is one of the eight devices that are set to receive Android Q update in the first batch.
