A couple of days ago, we reported about Vivo's plans regarding its first commercially available 5G smartphone. It will be a smartphone under iQOO branding with a release scheduled for sometime in Q3 2019. A the same MWC Shanghai event, Vivo shared details about AR glasses, 120W fast charging technology.
Starting with AR glasses, this will be the first time we will see Vivo releasing an augmented reality-related hardware product. It is currently in the prototype stage with no official name decided yet. It is simply referred to as Vivo AR Glass and is aimed at taking full advantage of 5G connectivity. The AR Glass has a dual-screen display with 6DoF (Degree of Freedom) tracking support.
Vivo said its AR glasses can be used for gaming, office work, 5G theatre, facial recognition, and object recognition purposes. It even showed a video offering an idea of it can be useful in day-to-day lives. It will also be able to connect with a 5G smartphone to deliver more experiences like using the phone itself as a console for gaming.
The 120W fast charging was also showcased at the event. Its official name is Vivo Super Charge 120W and as you would expect, it is insanely fast. It makes use of a custom-made USB Type-C cable and a travel charger to deliver high-speed charging at 20V/6A. In an internal test, it managed to charge a 4000mAh battery to 50% in 5 minutes and to a full 100% in 13 minutes. These are undoubtedly crazy numbers and have the potential to change our current charging habits.
Vivo has not shared any details about when you might see these products in the market. There are no words on the commercial availability of the fast charging technology either. But as soon as there will be any official details, we will make sure to keep you updated on the same.
