Spotify Lite Android app now available in 36 countries

09 July 2019 0

Spotify has announced the expansion of its toned-down Android app called Spotify Lite to 36 new countries. This lightweight app debuted last year and was under beta testing since then. It is primarily aimed at emerging markets where users have to deal with unreliable internet connections and limited data plans. It is also useful for anyone who has an Android device with basic specs and low storage space.

The main UI of Spotify Lite resembles the main flagship app from the leading music streaming service provider. It means you will feel right at home from the beginning. The app will show your recently played tracks along with playlists like Your Daily Mix and Discover Weekly. The process of accessing any playlist and playing a track remains the same.

Since the app focuses on data and storage space savings, it has dedicated features for that. The first feature is about the freedom to adjust the audio quality on the go. A user can choose from Basic, Normal, High, and Very High depending on the need or preference. For each quality, the app also shows estimated data consumption per song.

For users who have a limited data plan, Spotify Lite has a feature to set monthly data usage limit: 250MB, 500MB, 750MB, 1GB, 2GB, and 3GB. Once you will reach the set limit, the app will send an alert to notify you about the same. The only issue is that the app does not let you choose the monthly window depending on your recharge cycle.

Similarly, a user has the freedom to clear Spotify Lite app cache as well as the ability to delete all downloaded songs at once. These features are aimed at users with low storage devices. As for the app's size itself, it weighs only 10MB which makes it faster to download even on slow connectivity.

Spotify Lite app is currently available in Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Algeria, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, Oman, Jordan, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, South Africa, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, India. It can be installed by visiting the Google Play Store on one's device.
