After a long wait, Snap Inc. finally had a taste of significant user growth in the last quarter. Snapchat added an impressive 13 million new daily active users in Q2 2019. It has been Snap's best quarter since it went public in 2017 which also got investors happy and excited about the future.
In the report, Snap pointed out the release of new AR Lenses as one of the crucial factors behind the growth. The user engagement with these lenses in Q2 2019 is said to be higher than the complete 2018. One of the insanely popular lenses was the one which allowed users to turn their photos into the opposite gender or as a baby. This is not surprising as these lenses allow users to try on different items and share the captured snap with others. The app even allows saving the shot as an image which can be shared with people outside the app.
Snap also released a completely redesigned Snapchat Android app at the beginning of the second quarter. The app resulted in a significant performance boost on Android which is something users wanted for a long time. The new app resulted in Android users sending 7% more snaps than the older version. It further added support for many new languages like Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi, Gujarati, Vietnamese, and Urdu which must have helped it reach even bigger user base.
After such an impressive results, Snap wants to keep growing which is the reason it is now getting even more serious about global expansion. Snap CEO Evan Spiegel said that they are in talks with various telecom companies for managing data consumption. Ths is a crucial step as many users in developing markets like India have limited data plans. If Snapchat is able to do something that helps them save data, there will surely be more users getting attracted to the app.
