Xiaomi seems to be committed to taking the smartphone megapixels war to the next level. At a recent event held in China, it confirmed details about 64-megapixel camera smartphone but to take this many steps ahead, it teased plans to release a smartphone with a whopping 108-megapixel camera.
In the teaser announcement, Xiaomi revealed that it will use Samsung's 108-megapixel ISOCELL camera sensor. It will be capable of producing images up to 12,032 x 9,024 pixels in resolution. This is the highest possible photo resolution for any smartphone yet and that too by a huge margin.
Xiaomi did not go into any other details but well-known tipster @UniverseIce has tweeted that the Mi MIX 4 will be the first smartphone to feature the 108-megapixel camera. There is a good chance that it can be true as Xiaomi has used the MIX series to showcase many of the world's first techs. The upcoming flagship was recently rumored to support reverse wireless charging which means it will be able to charge other compatible devices as well.
Lastly, the same tipster has claimed that Xiaomi has struck a deal with Samsung regarding the usage of the sensor. The exact details are unknown but Xiaomi is said to be the sole OEM to offer 108MP camera, "at least for a first few months".
