WhatsApp is bringing an interesting feature for its users to give them a new way to make their chats more interactive. This is the Instagram’s ever-popular and lovable feature Boomerang that is now landing on WhatsApp as well.
According to ever-reliable tipster WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has been testing this feature for iOS but it will land for Android users as well. Those who are new to Boomerang function for whatsoever reason should know that the function endlessly loops a video backward and forwards, making a fun thing to share with friends. Just like the name implies, Boomerang is something that goes and comes back and this function in the digital world does so in an endless loop. Unlike GIFs, they’re stored in mp4 format and play for 5-6 seconds in length.
On WhatsApp, it’s going to be available in the Video Type panel where users can convert videos to GIFs. This toggle tab will accommodate a new button as well that will appear when the video opened is less than seven seconds. Once converted, you’ll be able to share with your contacts or status. While digging in, the tipster was able to obtain a short video of how the feature works.
The tipster finds the upcoming features of the WhatsApp for iOS and Android by digging into the newest beta versions of the app.
Note that Facebook received much criticism when it brought the Story feature to WhatsApp and now one more intrinsic feature of Instagram is landing on the chat application. The function, however, may not receive much objection since it’s a jazzed-up feature of video which many would want to have onboard.
