Facebook appears to be testing the dark theme for its app on Android. The new Dark Mode is spotted by Jane Manchun Wong, who shares the unreleased features of several apps. She came across this unreleased Dark Mode in Facebook’s mobile app for Android by looking into the code underneath. She managed to take a screenshot of the app with Dark Mode to tell us how this will look like.
As you would see, there’s a mostly dark UI, but the top navigation portion stays white and features grey buttons. This, of course, looks like a half-baked thing for now as a complete rollout will happen when the app gets the dark theme as a whole. The overall look of the Facebook Dark UI looks similar to very-new Android Q’s system-wide dark theme. Here, specifically in the app, only portions of the app have been revamped with dark mode thus far. And, there are a few discrepancies to note as well like a dark text on a dark background.
It is unknown when Facebook will bring this change publically, but it’s good to note that the testing is going on.
Facebook rolled out the Dark Mode to its Messenger app back in April this year globally. The feature switches the chat display from white to black and it’s best suitable in low-light situations to cut down on glare.
