Flipkart launches Video streaming service, Ideas social feed like Instagram

19 August 2019 0

Over the last weekend, Flipkart announced the launch of two new services called Flipkart Video and Flipkart Ideas. The first one is a video streaming service and the second one is an Instagram-like social feed to improve users' shopping experience. Both these features have been released for Android devices with no words on iOS release yet.

Starting with Flipkart Video, it is a video streaming service in collaboration with various streaming services like Viu, Dice Media, TVF, Arre, and Voot. It shows content including TV shows and movies from these platforms for free. There is also an easy setup process where you have to choose up to three titles for personalized recommendations. It also has three tabs called All, Movies, and Shows meant for browsing all types of contents, movies, and TV shows respectively.

In an official statement, a Flipkart executive said,

“Our video content offering is focused on three primary aspects, keeping in mind our understanding of the market: free, curated and personalized. We believe that our customers shouldn’t pay extra for premium content and hence our offering is different from anything else that is currently available."

As for Flipkart Ideas, it is a social media-like feed inspired by Flipkart where users can follow specific product categories as well as influencers in the form of videos, GIFs, images, stories, quizzes, and polls. The feed is basically a compilation of different products recommended by select influencers. The service starts by asking you to choose up to five product categories. The good thing is that you can even buy products directly from the Ideas tab without having to exit.
