10 September 2019
Xiaomi has been working on MIUI 11 since the beginning of the year and now, it seems to be getting closer to an official announcement. At least this is what a Weibo post from Xiaomi's Product Director and MIUI's Experience Chief is suggesting. He is currently running a lucky draw giveaway for Mi fans and is offering two tickets to a future MIUI conference event.
The post mentions that the deadline for participating in the giveaway is September 5th, 2019. This date is the reason that has led to speculations that the MIUI 11 announcement is closer than ever. It is even possible that it could happen by the end of September which would be plenty of time for Xiaomi to announce winners. If an official announcement is so close, then MIUI 11 public beta rollout should also be around the corner, at least for the current generation Xiaomi flagships.
As for what to expect from MIUI 11, the details have been very scarce as there have not been many leaks. An earlier report did mention that Xiaomi will offer redesigned icons, improved battery saving mode, and support for foldable phones with the new MIUI version. One can expect to see system-wide dark mode which has started to become a trend and fixes for MIUI advertisement issues that surfaced a few months ago. It will also be based on Android Q for most of the new Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones.
The most important bit of information is that Xiaomi is claimed to offer a Google Duplex-like functionality with MIUI 11. It is reported to be called "inter-finger call" where digital assistant XiaoAI will help users answer phone calls. It will convert voice-to-text in real-time for everything that will be said from the other side. As for MIUI 11 user, it will help convert written text to voice so that they don't have to speak. It will also be beneficial for users with speech and hearing impairments. Since the feature seems to be tied up to XiaoAI, it is hard to say if it will come to global markets as well.
