Exactly one week after confirming the name and logo for TV lineup, OnePlus TV has now been confirmed to become official next month. The announcement came through an official forum post from OnePlus CEO Pete Lau who also revealed that OnePlus TV will come to India first.
The post does not offer any details about the TV's specifications or features but is primarily focused on sharing the company's vision and development process for the product. Lau said that they chose to release OnePlus TV first in India because they already have partnerships with content providers in the country.
"We all know, “content is king,” which remains one of the major reasons for television's continued relevance in our lives. Yet, the content ecosystem is quite different from one country to another. We have always had a very positive relationship with content providers in India, who have always been willing to partner with us, which guarantees great content for our users."
OnePlus is working on bringing the TV lineup to other regions including China, North America, and Europe but there is no specific timeline yet. The reason for delayed launch is related to local and regional content partnerships which the team is working on acquiring. It makes sense as providing content relevant to a particular region will help it differentiate from the competition and attract potential new buyers.
If we go by leaks and rumors, OnePlus TV lineup is expected to arrive in different display size models ranging from 43-inch to 75-inch. At least one of the variants is reported to sport an OLED display panel. The launch date is speculated to be September 26th which is also the date rumored for OnePlus 7T Pro release in India. It means we could see OnePlus announcing new smartphones as well as TVs at the same event on September 26th.
