After a few speculations, Xiaomi has officially confirmed that it will indeed launch Redmi Note 8 series on August 29th which is also the day for Redmi TV unveiling. It made the announcement through Weibo and further confirmed that the lineup will have two smartphones: Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro.
Xiaomi shared a launch event poster showing the Redmi Note 8 Pro back panel. The image confirmed the presence of 64-megapixel quad rear cameras but with a unique placement. The smartphone has three of the cameras vertically-aligned like a triple camera setup and the fourth one placed adjacent to it. The LED flash is present right at the top of this fourth camera. It also shows a fingerprint scanner which means there will not be an in-display fingerprint scanner on the device.
After this announcement, MediaTek's Weibo account also shared an image confirming that Redmi Note 8 lineup will come with the recently released Helio G90 processor series. This particular processor is focused on delivering powerful gaming performance and boasts HyperEngine gaming engine technology. Soon after chipset's announcement, Xiaomi confirmed plans to release a smartphone in India that will come with the processor.
All of Redmi Note phones in India have been released with a Qualcomm processor. It seems like Redmi Note 8 will become the first phone in the lineup to feature a MediaTek processor. To be specific, the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro could be launched with Helio G90 and Helio G90T processors respectively. As for any other details, we will have to wait until the next week unless there are new leaks or teasers.
