30 October 2019 0

UPDATE (October 30th, 2019):

Realme has now announced Android 10 update plans for its Chinese models. It will start releasing the latest Android version in China from Q1 2020. The first batch of phones includes the Realme X Lite (rebranded Realme 3 Pro), Realme X, and Realme Q (rebranded Realme 5 Pro). The second batch includes Realme 2 and Realme 2 Pro models which are scheduled to receive the update in Q2 2020.

The update will be released in the form of an exclusive ColorOS 7 version that will be closer to the stock Android experience. This special version is meant only for Realme phones but we do not know if it will be made available for Chinese variants as well.

Original (September 13th, 2019)

Realme is the latest Android smartphone maker to release a timeline of when it will be upgrading phones to Android 10. It made the announcement earlier today at the same event where it unveiled Realme XT and teased Realme XT 730G. It has plans of upgrading a total of eight smartphones to the newest Android version starting early next year.

The Realme Android 10 upgrade process will be completed in three phases where each phase will last for a quarter. The first phase includes Realme XT, Realme X, Realme 5 Pro, and Realme 3 Pro which will be updated in the first quarter of 2020. The second quarter will see Realme 5, Realme 3, and Realme 3i getting upgraded. Lastly, it will upgrade the Realme 2 Pro in Q3 2020 to wrap up the update roadmap.

As you might have noticed, the list is missing a few phones like the Realme 1, Realme 2, Realme C1, and Realme C2. All of these are budget phones which could be the reason behind excluding them from the Android 10 upgrade plans. But it is the Realme U1 which appears to be the oddest exclusion. It is hard to say if Realme will add any new devices to the list but if it does, we will let you know.

Lastly, Realme's Android 10 upgrade should be layered with a custom skin. It has been using Oppo's ColorOS since its inception but in recent times, we have heard rumors of RealmeOS. It will be interesting to see if Android 10 rollout will also mark the debut of Realme's own custom skin.
