Xiaomi sub-brand Redmi has confirmed that it will launch Redmi 8A on September 25th at an event to be held in India. It will mark the budget phone's global debut as it has not been announced anywhere yet. It is being teased as "Smart Desh Ka Damdaar Phone" which means "powerful phone for a smart country".
The official Xiaomi India website has a new Redmi 8A landing page teasing its various features. It is shown with slim bezels and dewdrop-styled notch which is a first for any Redmi A-series smartphone. The teaser suggests there will be a 5,000mAh battery with fast charging support. It is a significant bump over 4,000mAh battery available with the Redmi 7A. Interestingly, the soon-to-be predecessor phone was launched four months ago globally and only two months ago in India.

It is further expected to offer an improved front camera as Redmi is teasing "social media ready photos, Pro like pictures, and spectacular selfies" on the page. It will have a new aura wave grip design for a premium feel and "great hand feel". This is the first time we will see a Redmi A-series phone with such a design.
The upcoming Redmi 8A was reportedly spotted on TENAA website recently which offered some details related to the specifications. It was listed with a 6.2-inch HD+ (1520 x 720 pixels) display with 19:9 aspect ratio which we now know will be a notched display. The underlying chipset is expected to be an octa-core offering with three configuration options. These include 2GB RAM with 16GB storage, 3GB RAM with 32GB storage, and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. One should expect MicroSD card support with each of these options.
The camera department is reported to include a 12-megapixel back camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. We have already mentioned the expected battery capacity. Other speculated features include a fingerprint scanner and Android 9 Pie based on MIUI 10 as the pre-installed software.
