Instagram dark mode available with the latest Android beta update

25 September 2019 0

Ever since Google added native support for dark mode with Android 10, more and more apps are releasing updates to make themselves compatible with the same. Instagram has become the newest member to of the dark side as it has started to beta test dark mode functionality with a few users around the world.

There are various reports claiming that Instagram dark mode is available with the latest beta build. It is said to be tied up with Android 10's native dark mode. It means the moment you will turn on the dark mode toggle from system settings, Instagram will switch to dark mode as well. This will allow you to use Instagram with a completely dark theme except for White-colored menus and icons.

The dark mode is widespread within the Instagram application. You will find it on the main interface but also within direct messages and IGTV. This makes sense as you would want the app to have the same theme everywhere instead of inconsistencies between dark and light modes.

While most report mention Instagram dark mode is limited to Android 10, it has also been spotted to be working on a Samsung device running Android 9 Pie. It seems like on Samsung devices, the dark mode is tied up with One UI's default dark mode settings. Nevertheless, it is good to see the mode working on an older Android version as well.
