WhatsApp fingerprint unlock support finally comes to Android

After a little over two months of beta testing, WhatsApp has finally started to roll out fingerprint unlock support on Android for everyone. The newly added biometric authentication support is meant to be an extra layer of protection against unauthorized access to one's conversations on the app.

WhatsApp fingerprint unlock support on Android is available with the latest update. It can be downloaded and installed via Google Play Store but if you are not seeing any new update, it is advised to wait for some time. Once you have the newest version, you will be able to set up fingerprint unlocking by visiting Settings -> Account -> Privacy- > Fingerprint lock and enabling the toggle.

When fingerprint unlock is enabled, there are two more settings that you can use to personalize the user experience. The first feature is to choose the time for the automatic lock. You can select Immediately, After 1 minute or After 30 minutes after which WhatsApp will get locked.

The second feature is about whether you want the notification content to be visible or hidden. If you will choose the latter, no one would be able to see WhatsApp notification preview unless the app is unlocked using fingerprint authentication. This is to prevent from taking a peek at the incoming message(s) from the notification center.
