Facebook is undoubtedly a social networking behemoth and that is not only because of the main Facebook platform but also because of the various apps and products it owns. This is the reason Facebook has unveiled a new corporate logo to differentiate Facebook the company from the social networking app. It is also aimed at helping users know which of the other apps/products they are using that are owned by Facebook.
The new Facebook logo is simple and plain with a modern-style font that has "Facebook" written in capital and bold letters. It will start appearing in all Facebook products and marketing materials in the coming weeks. It should be noted that the logo for Facebook social networking app and website is unchanged and will continue to be the same.
Facebook has released the same corporate logo in different colors to represent the particular app it owns. It means for WhatsApp and Instagram, it has a Green and Pinki-ish colored logo respectively. These logos will be used within the respective apps as well as on marketing materials meant for them.
Within the app, Facebook will use the logo to make it clear that the app is owned by them. You can refer to the screenshots below to see the exact implementation of the new logo. It will be visible on the sign-up/log-in user interface as well as on the settings page interface.
This is not surprising to see Facebook has gone for a brand image change. It has found itself in a lot of controversies related to user privacy and data collecting. Antonio Lucio, Chief Marketing Officer at Facebook, said that they even considered a brand name change but scrapped the idea thinking that it would be seen as an attempt to run away from the problems. It is hopeful that the new logo will help create a positive image in the mind of users but only the time will tell whether this change works in any capacity.
