OnePlus started updating OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro to Android 10 towards the end of September. All the users of these new flagships are running the latest Android version but the story is exactly opposite for those who went with the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G. They did not receive the upgrade and as per the latest official announcement, they will have to wait until next year.
Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus, has shared a post on official OnePlus forums detailing the update situation for its 5G users. He said that OnePlus 7 Pro 5G users will receive an Android 10 update sometime in the first quarter of 2020 i.e. by March 2020. It is undoubtedly a long wait and the reason for the same is said to be related to technical complications.
In the post, Lau said:
"5G opens up a realm of endless possibilities. It uses a different communications module to establish a faster connection as opposed to 4G, and requires a deeper level of understanding and more rigorous tests, debugging and optimizations to be done to our software and hardware. To achieve the best experience possible, we had to make system optimizations from the fundamental system architecture, in order to deliver a truly fantastic 5G experience."
He added that the team wants to ensure that Android 10 updated does not affect the fast and seamless 5G connectivity on the smartphone. And since 5G is still in infancy state and team has to face new challenges during optimizations and usual tests, they are taking their time to make sure that as and when the update is ready for rollout, everything works as it should.
